Recovery
The first step to proceed with the recycling of plastic containers is the collection, this requires a complex system in which undoubtedly the support of consumers is essential, although in most countries plastic containers are separated from other types of garbage, it is often not possible to recycle them because they are already contaminated and their cleaning is much more expensive for recyclers. For this reason, learn how to separate plastic bottles correctly so that they can be recovered more easily and move on to the next step, recycling.
Identification of plastics
It is of vital importance to implement the obligation to identify the type of plastic used for proper recycling.
Recycling
When the bottles arrive at the recycling center the process begins, the first step is to separate them by the type of material they are made of, there are two main ones, PET and HDPE, after this it is necessary to remove all the plastic or paper labels they have, then they go through a process of washing and disinfection.
Once the bottles are ready, they are separated by color to continue through a grinding process, where they are converted into small pellets. These are mixed with a new resin, for the manufacture of new containers; not all bottles can be manufactured with a percentage of recycled material, there are some industries that, for quality issues, require that recycled material is not used. However, more and more companies are admitting that the disinfection processes and the high temperatures used to melt the resins kill any organism present. At Plastimex all our bottles are 100% recyclable.
